Digital Marketing Agency in Reading, MA | CROSS Digital

We are at 7 Hilltop Drive in Burlington, about seven miles from Reading along Route 128 and Route 62. We work on both sides of that line every week.

Reading is a downtown town in a corridor of highway towns

Around twenty five thousand residents, and unusually for this stretch of Route 128, a real walkable downtown. Haven Street and Main Street hold independent retail, restaurants and services within a few minutes of the commuter rail station on the Haverhill line. Route 128 runs along the southern edge and Route 28 carries traffic north and south through the middle of town.

That produces a market with two halves that behave nothing alike:

  • Downtown Reading behaves like a small town. Foot traffic, repeat customers, and a reputation that travels by word of mouth. Reviews carry disproportionate weight here because the customer base is local and comes back.
  • The rest of the town behaves like every other 128 suburb. Largely single family housing, high owner occupancy, and housing stock old enough to need work. That means steady, high-ticket demand for home services.
  • Reading competes across town lines nobody can see. Wakefield, Stoneham, North Reading, Woburn and Wilmington businesses all appear in Reading searches and the other way round. Proximity decides most of it, and most businesses here have never optimised for it.

Reading is not one market, it is four

    • Someone searching from the depot and someone searching from the 128 edge can see a different map. Coverage across the whole town is a real problem to solve.

      • Downtown Reading. Haven Street, Main Street and the area around the depot. Walkable, independent, restaurant and service heavy. This is where near me searches behave most like a small town and where review count matters most.
      • The Route 28 corridor. Main Street running north to south, carrying most of the town’s auto, everyday retail and drive-by service demand.
      • The Route 128 edge. The commercial stretch nearest the highway, with pass-through demand from people who do not live in Reading. Hours and parking information matter more to this group than copy does.
      • Residential Reading. Large, mostly single family, and mostly old enough to need work. This is where the roofing, HVAC, electrical, landscaping and remodeling searches come from.

The three growth leaks we find on Reading sites

  1. The Google Business Profile is half built. No services listed, categories set once and never revisited, no photo in a year. This is the map-pack layer, it is the cheapest thing to fix, and it is the most commonly skipped.
  2. Reviews stopped. A 4.9 on 14 reviews loses to a 4.6 on 90. In a town where the customer base is local and repeat, a stale review date reads as a business that may not still be trading.
  3. The site ranks and then does nothing. No phone link on mobile, no quote form above the fold, hours that are wrong on a holiday weekend. We find broken conversion paths more often than we find broken rankings.

What we do

Local SEO and Google Business Profile management, websites built to convert on a phone, Google Ads with conversion tracking configured before the first dollar, and AI search visibility for the assistants your customers now ask instead of typing. Branding, social and email where they support those.

We do not sell cybersecurity, IT services, or anything we do not run ourselves.

Proof

Our client base runs through this corridor: First Alarm in Woburn and Danvers, Synergy Home Appliance in Burlington, Vallerand Builders in Billerica. Named results are on our Testimonials and Case Studies pages.

Towns around Wilmington

Wakefield, North Reading, Stoneham, Woburn, Wilmington and Lynnfield, and more widely across Boston’s north suburbs and the Route 128 corridor.

How we measure it

We report on the things that turn into money, not the things that look good on a chart.

  • Calls and form fills, tracked to the click and the keyword that produced them, which requires conversion tracking to be configured before any ad spend rather than bolted on after.
  • Map-pack position for your money terms, checked from inside Reading rather than from wherever a reporting tool happens to sit, because proximity changes the answer.
  • Review count and recency, tracked as a trend rather than a snapshot.
  • Visibility in AI answers, checked across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot for the questions your customers actually ask.

If a number is not moving, we say so and change what we are doing. A report that only contains good news is not a report.

What working with us looks like

  • A free 3-Point Growth Leak Review first. We look at your site, your Google profile and your search visibility and tell you the three things costing you the most. You get the list whether or not you hire us.
  • Clear pricing. AI SEO from $600 a month on its own. The full Growth bundle at $1,600 a month. No onboarding fee and no long-term contract.
  • You can come to the office. Mon to Fri, 9:00am to 5:00pm, 7 Hilltop Drive, Burlington MA 01803.
  • We will tell you when we are not the right fit. If the problem is a pricing problem or a product problem, more marketing makes it worse, and we would rather say so on the first call than take the retainer.

Reading digital marketing FAQ

How much does SEO cost for a Reading business?

AI SEO starts at $600 a month with no onboarding fee and no long-term contract. The full Growth bundle, which adds paid search management and conversion work, is $1,600 a month. Most Reading businesses start with local SEO and the Google Business Profile because that is where the return arrives fastest.

You do not beat them on budget, you beat them on proximity and proof. Someone standing on Haven Street is closer to you than to anything on the highway, and Google knows it. What usually throws that advantage away is an incomplete profile and a thin review count, and both are fixable in weeks.

Two different systems. The map pack weighs proximity, profile completeness and reviews, and your website barely factors in. A business can sit fourth organically and be invisible in the map, and the map is where most calls come from.

No. Recency counts alongside volume, and most businesses with a big count built it once and stopped. A steady stream closes the gap faster than owners expect.

Google Business Profile work can move in two to four weeks because you are fixing signals Google already holds. Competitive organic terms take three to six months. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is selling you something else.

Seven miles, and you can come to the office. More usefully, ask any agency to show you results in your category in this corridor. That is the question that separates people, not the town line.

Your site, your Google profile and your visibility in search and AI answers, and the three things costing you the most, with what each would take to fix. No obligation.
